WILLIAM CONNOR
My Dad - 1910-2001
LC Painting & Decorating was inspired in the 1960s by William Connor, a visionary African American entrepreneur from the Southside of Chicago. Driven by the need to provide for his family, William began his journey by painting the interiors of local schools, quickly earning a reputation for his meticulous attention to detail and commitment to excellence. What started as a humble endeavor soon blossomed into a respected name in the community, as William’s craftsmanship and dedication set a new standard for quality.
Today, LC Painting & Decorating honors his legacy by delivering luxurious, detail-oriented painting and decorating services that reflect the same precision, pride, and perseverance that William built the company on over half a century ago.
ME AS a kid- the son
When I was 8 years old, my dad would often pull me away from playing with my friends to help him with his painting jobs. At the time, it felt like a chore—hours spent holding brushes, taping edges, and cleaning up when all I wanted to do was be a kid. I didn’t understand why he insisted on having me there, but as the years passed, something shifted.
Watching him work with such precision and pride, seeing the transformation of a blank wall into something beautiful, and learning the care he poured into every project sparked something in me. What started as an obligation eventually became a passion, and those moments with my dad laid the foundation for everything I do today.
I carry with me the lessons my father taught me all those years ago when he pulled me away from playing outside with my friends to help him paint schools on the Southside of Chicago. At the time, I didn’t understand the significance of those moments, but now, I see them as the foundation of everything I’ve built. This business is more than a company—it’s a tribute to my father’s hard work, values, and legacy.
Every brushstroke is a way to honor him, and I hope he’s proud of the business he inspired and the traditions I strive to carry forward.
meet LAWRENCE CONNOR
After going to college, getting married, and starting a career as a police detective with the Maywood Police Department in Maywood, IL, I dedicated 30 years to serving my community. Yet, even while balancing the demands of my career and family life, I never let go of the craft my father had passed down to me—painting. Inspired by his work ethic and commitment to providing for our family, I paid homage to that legacy by officially founding LC Painting & Decorating in the 1980s.
With the same meticulous attention to detail and pursuit of excellence that defined my father’s work, I built the business as a tribute to the values I was raised on. Once I retired as a detective, I turned my full attention to the company, continuing to honor my father’s legacy while transforming homes and businesses with unparalleled craftsmanship and care.
